History of Comec Europe

Although Incorporated as a Limited Company in 1992, Comec actually dates back to 1988 and the liberalisation of the UK telecoms marketplace. Comec is a privately owned company with the same shareholders as it had on day one.

Until 1995, Comec was unremarkable; selling small telephone systems to typically owner managed businesses, but by now, the founders were restless. As the technology in those systems was at best basic, and both of the founders came from a technical background, they decided to evaluate the marketplace and the various products available around the world.  Comec then reached agreement with AT & T (now Avaya) to support their flagship Enterprise product (Definity) within the UK.

In early 1997 Comec specialised in the Avaya Enterprise product sets, and was the first UK Business Partner to install a fibre based multi-site installation.

"In 2007, Comec was still a traditional Avaya Business Partner with all the usual departments you would expect, however we identified a niche for our business and began to change our business model to allow for that and to concentrate on developing relationships with US based Avaya Business Partners.

We learnt that many US Business Partners had previously sought alliances and agreements in other territories in order to service their client’s international offices and facilities.  These arrangements invariably fell apart over a period of time, normally because the overseas Business Partner was more focussed on his own client base rather than that of the US Business Partner.

This is when our change started.  We closed our marketing department and our telesales.  We shrank our sales department and greatly increased our investments in our technician teams.  Training budgets were increased significantly and we became primarily an engineering focused business.  We recruited additional technicians predominantly from Avaya.

Our people also changed their focus. They know that our customers are US based Business Partners and not the end user so our entire focus is on keeping the US BP happy."

In late 2007 and early 2008, Comec Voice & Data Ltd sold their legacy SMB base of customers, re-engineered itself and changed its entire focus to looking after US based Avaya Business Partners allowing them to develop revenues and profits from all 27 member states of the European Union.

The company is now completely focused on providing Pan-European solutions for its US based Business Partners.
